A safari in Uganda is a thrilling and unique experience that will expose you to a wide range of wildlife, diverse landscapes, and fascinating cultures. Here are some of the things you can expect on a Uganda safari:
Gorilla Trekking: One of the highlights of any Uganda safari is the opportunity to go gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. This is an unforgettable experience that will bring you up close and personal with these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.
Your journey starts from Entebbe International Airport where you will board a domestic flight to Kisoro, a town located in the south-western part of Uganda, close to the borders with Rwanda and Congo. Please make sure you check-in 1 hour before the departure time listed on the flight ticket that we provide for you.
A representative from Mwanzo Tours will be waiting at Kisoro airstrip to drive you to the lodge. The 45-minute drive runs along a beautiful jeep track that dips into villages and skirts steep hills with stunning views of the lake below.
Gorilla Tracking is the main highlight of a visit to the southern parts of Bwindi Forest, but you are also in the perfect place for volcano hikes, birding, nature and culture walks and canoe and paddle board excursions. The sunset scenes are unforgettable so make sure to find your way to the lodge’s veranda in time for sundowners.
Encountering the rare and endangered Mountain Gorilla of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is an experience of a lifetime.
Half of the world’s population of gorillas live under the mist-covered canopies of Uganda’s oldest and most biologically diverse rainforest. In the company of an experienced park ranger you will be tracking the whereabouts of one of the nine habituated family groups who reside here.
Your tracking experience will be an exciting, yet challenging, journey along forested (often muddy and slippery) slopes, tangled vines, thick vegetation and bamboo forests before you reach the territory of these gentle giants. En-route, your ranger will point out telltale signs of previous gorilla activity, like dung, nests and chewed bamboo shoots. Depending on the location of the gorillas on any given day the walk can take anything from 2 to 7 hours. Once the family of gorillas have been located, settle in to your surroundings and enjoy the hour you have to quietly observe these fascinating primates whose habits and mannerisms remind us so much of our own.
Encountering the mountain gorillas in the wild is a truly humbling and emotional experience, one that you are sure to remember for the rest of your life.
Enjoy your last sunrise in this beautiful corner of Uganda. In the early morning a representative from Mwanzo Tours Uganda Lake Resort will arrange your transfer from the lodge to Kisoro airstrip.
Should you require one (or more) nights in Entebbe or Kampala before or after your tour we would be happy to arrange this for you.
